Prayer is not the Believer’s last resort—it’s his first reflex. The Greek construction of Ephesians 6:10-18 actually leads us to understand that prayer is the catalyst whereby we are equipped with God’s armor. In other words, we “pray on” the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of readiness, the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation. We pray in order for the Holy Spirit to illuminate His Word so that we learn to surrender to it fully and use it effectively in this spiritual battle. Prayer keeps us connected to the heart of God and is an ongoing rhythm in the Believer’s life that is essential to living in the victory of Christ Jesus.
