'12M barrels of oil are passing through the strait of Hormuz': VP Vance announces after Iran deal

Vice President JD Vance said the U.S. started easing military restrictions on shipping to Iran as part of a newly announced agreement aimed at ending the conflict, allowing more than a dozen vessels to reach Iranian ports. Vance said the U.S. Navy had permitted ships to transit to Iranian ports and cited increased traffic through the Strait of Hormuz as evidence that the agreement is already producing results. "So we're also honoring our end of the early part of the agreement on the military side," Vance said during a news briefing at the White House on Thursday. The vice president said more than 12.5 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday night, describing the increase as an immediate economic benefit of the deal. Vance's comments offered some of the first details about how the U.S. plans to implement the agreement with Iran, which administration officials have portrayed as a major diplomatic breakthrough. The deal is intended to reduce tensions with the nation and restore stability to one of the world's most important energy corridors. Vance also pushed back on criticism from opponents who argued the agreement favors Iran, saying the administration is securing tangible benefits while ensuring both sides meet their obligations. The news comes after President Donald Trump announced that U.S. and Iran both signed the peace deal. He said the agreement was finalized while he was attending a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron on Wednesday. "It's signed, yeah," Trump said. "We signed it in Versailles. I just signed it." ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow Iowa's News Now on our social media pages: Iowa’s News Now on Facebook:   / iowasnewsnow   Iowa’s News Now on Twitter:   / iowasnewsnow   For more news & weather: https://cbs2iowa.com/ Send us news tips @ [email protected] #iowanewsnow #iowanews #localnews #KGAN #news
