Angela Vettese is an art historian, historian of philosophy, academic, and curator. Always passionate about contemporary art, after graduating from high school, she graduated with a degree in Medieval Philosophy from the University of Milan. In 1991, she completed a postgraduate course in Art History at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Since 1986, she has been a regular contributor to the Sunday supplement of Il Sole 24 Ore, and since 1999, she has collaborated with Domus, Abitare, Flash Art International, Frieze, Parkett, Art+Text, and Exit; from 1999 to 2006, she collaborated with Il Giornale dell'Arte. She has taught Art History at academies and universities in Italy and abroad. Since 2001, she has directed the master's degree program in visual arts and fashion at the IUAV University of Venice (Department of Project Cultures), where she is an associate professor of Theory and Criticism of Contemporary Art. From 1993 to 1996, she was co-curator of the Furla-Querini Stampalia Prize. From 1995 to 2003, she was curator of the Advanced Course at the Antonio Ratti Foundation. From 2002 to 2013, she was president of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice. From 2005 to 2008, she directed the Galleria Civica in Modena. She co-founded the Faenza Contemporary Art Festival, held from 2007 to 2011. From 2009 to 2010, she directed the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation in Milan. In 2009, she was president of the International Jury of the Venice Biennale of Visual Arts. Since 2009, she has been a member of the Scientific Committee of PalazzoGrassi-Punta della Dogana in Venice. In May 2013, due to her technical expertise, Mayor Giorgio Orsoni appointed her Councilor for Culture and Tourism of the City of Venice, a position she held until June 2014, when Orsoni himself, following the investigation into his funding for the MOSE project, dissolved the City Council. From 2016 to 2018, she was artistic director of Arte Fiera at BolognaFiere. She is honorary president of the Docva Documentation Center at the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan. She has co-organized lecture series for the FAI, with which she also collaborated at Villa Panza in Biumo. She has written texts for numerous international exhibition catalogs.
