First Mashramani (in Georgetown) in 1972 Guyana
Digitized from a Guyana Information Service (GIS) Production that captured the first Georgetown Mashramani held in Guyana in 1972. Mashramani began in Linden, organised by the Jaycees following Guyana's 1966 Independence celebrations. It was later moved to Georgetown as a national event after Guyana became a Republic in 1970. The word Mashramani was coined from Guyana's Indigenous Arawak language to mean celebration after hard/cooperative work.
