​Panch Kedars are Lord Shiva's temples, which are located in Uttarakhand and were supposedly made by Pandavas, the winners of epic Mahabharata at Kurukshetra. As they want to atone their sins for their cousins and gurus death, so they went in search of lord Shiva, on the advice of Lord Krishna and Ved Vyaas. So they found Shiva on mountains near kedarnath,but in the form of a Bull. As Shiva was not happy with Kurukshetra war, He doesnt want to greet Pandavas, he wants to avoid, but Bhima identified lord Shiva, so he jumped on bull and caught very tightly, but bull wanted to disappear in land, then as Bhima pulled bull with immense power, bull ripped in 5 parts. The Hump of bull fell there only at Kedarnath, the mid part of bull (Navel) in Madhyamaheshwar, the arms in chopta Tungnath, face in Rudranath and hairs at Kalpeshwar. Then Pandavas went every place of these 5, and made a temple there and worshipped lord Shiva, and made to their way to heaven. That is why Panch kedar yatra is so meaningful and considered to be yatra of heaven. You have to trek for about 15 from Ransi to reach Madhyamaheshwar temple. Ransi is 20 kms from Ukhimath. The third temple in Panch Kedar is Tungnath. Tungnath is considered as the highest Shiva temple in the world. This is a 4km long trek which starts from Chopta.
