CHAPTER 4: PRESSING THE MOUNTAINS AND DRAINING DOWNTOWN ON THE ROAD TO UBATUBA! 🚗⛰️⛈️ We left the beaches of Bombinhas behind to face one of the toughest and most demanding challenges of our entire trip to Rio de Janeiro. We ventured onto the dreaded road to Curitiba, a grueling stretch with an 800-meter elevation gain in just 30 kilometers. Tight curves, brutal slopes, and the Fiat 147 struggling in the mountains, but proving its endurance. After conquering the mountain, we descended towards Peruíbe, where we stopped for three days to rest, unwind, and make sure everything was in order before continuing. But the road in Brazil always has a surprise in store! As we headed towards Ubatuba, we ventured back into the mountains, but this time the conditions were extreme: a torrential downpour that left us with zero visibility, treacherous asphalt, and a tension inside the car that made us doubt we'd even reach our destination. It was so bad that we had to change our plans on the fly and rent an Airbnb to spend the night safely. A true emotional rollercoaster on wheels!
