2021-03-05 "Good Boy" Xiao Qi Ji Listens to his Keepers & Mei

PandaStory Day 196: Around 8am Xiao Qi Ji went outside joining Mei Xiang who was already enjoying some treats. He immediately headed up the teepee climbing structure, and stayed there until around 12:30pm. During that time, Mei Xiang went indoors and ate bamboo, took a nap, ate some more, and then wandered back outside to eat more bamboo. She knows that Qi Ji is fine outside, and she's just steps away should he call! Be sure to have your volume on when he walks out the gate of the Panda House ~ you'll hear his keepers saying "Door", "Good Boy", ! Again when Mei Xiang comes out to call him indoors, listen to her bleating, and then listen to the keepers call both Mei Xiang and Qi Ji as part of their training! This dovetails nicely with the new Zoo blog posted today: https://nationalzoo.si.edu/animals/ne... After they came in, they enjoyed sugar cane, although I'm not sure Qi Ji knew what to do with it! But he had fun interacting with his favorite overgrown stuffie, momma Mei Xiang. Afterward, she offered to nurse him, and he settled down and nursed in room 2! Then they moved the party to room 3, and he was back to back with momma Mei "eating" bamboo. Then Mei Xiang goes outside for her afternoon snack, sugar cane, and I think an apple? When she comes back in she laps up Qi Ji's treat in the den (bananas, applesauce, sweet potato?), but he didn't seem upset at all. After winding down by rolling around with one of 3 logs in his den, he fell asleep.
