We're introducing a day trip by train and bus through the pristine Gangwon region, visiting the Jeongseon 5-day Market, a famous Korean market brimming with rural charm. ▶9:01 AM Yangpyeong Station This train departs from Cheongnyangni (8:30 AM) and passes through Yangpyeong, Wonju, Jecheon, and Yeongwol, all the way to Mindungsan. The Jeongseon Arirang Train is a tourist train that runs only on days when the Jeongseon 5-day Market is open, making one round trip per day. The Jeongseon Arirang Train originally ran to Jeongseon Station and Auraji Station, but currently only runs to Mindungsan Station due to rockfall repairs. In addition to the Jeongseon Arirang Train, the Mugunghwa Train also runs four round trips per day to Mindungsan Station. ▶How to Reserve Go to Let's Korail on PC / Go to Korail Talk on mobile https://www.korail.com/ticket/main Choose a departure station near you: Cheongnyangni, Yangpyeong, Wonju, Jecheon, or Yeongwol. If you select Mindungsan Station as your arrival station, there are 4-5 trains per day. Beautiful scenery appears as you pass Yeongwol Station. The Jeongseon Arirang Train passes through Gangwon-do's pristine region. This area, with its beautiful scenery in all four seasons, offers breathtaking snowscapes when it snows. ▶Arrival at Mindungsan Station at 11:16 Finally, we arrived at Mindungsan Station, enjoying the beautiful scenery. After exiting Mindungsan Station and descending the stairs, a tour bus to Jeongseon awaits. Across the street is the bus stop for Jeongseon Arirang Market. Bus No. 5 arrives at the stop just in time for the train! The 35-minute ride to Jeongseon Arirang Market. Get off at the Shinhyuphyup Station and you'll see the entrance to the Jeongseon 5-day Market right in front of you. This is Korea's most famous traditional market, open on the 2nd, 7th, and Saturdays. When the market opens, it's bustling with local residents and tourists alike. Jeongseon 5-day Market is famous for its wild greens, especially the fragrant aromas of gondre (Korean ginseng), bujiggeongi (Korean fernbrake), bracken, and wild radish sprouts. Various medicinal herbs, imbued with the energy of Gangwon-do, are displayed at each stall, each showcasing their health benefits. From savory injeolmi (rice cakes) and handmade hangwa (Korean sweets) filled with grain syrup, to chicken filled with vegetables, freshly fried fish cakes, and freshly boiled pig's feet, the market is overflowing with delicious food that's sure to please. Enter the food alley and you'll find a cluster of Gangwon-do's finest restaurants. With savory and light dishes like gondre bap (rice with dried pollack), ongsimi (stir-fried rice with dried pollack), muksabal (rice bowl), kotdeungchigi guksu (noodles with croaker), and buckwheat pancakes (rice pancakes), you can order anywhere and everything is delicious. A hearty and delicious taste of Gangwon-do. ▶ Jeongseon Duty Free Shop "Gatari" "Gatari," a local food store within the market, sells a variety of processed goods made with carefully selected agricultural products from Jeongseon. This space is a collaboration between over 30 manufacturers and 20 small businesses selling Jeongseon specialties, offering unique Jeongseon products. The café is also home to the unique "Danimgil" cafe, known for its "Gorosoericano," made with gorosoe water. Drink it with a shot of espresso in the warm gorosoe water. ▶ Market Street Enjoy delicious snacks and a glass of makgeolli (rice wine) at the market. ▶ Jeongseon 5-Day Market Permanent Performance Hall A variety of performances are held here from April onwards when the market opens. ▶Wawa Store Wawa Store offers merchandise featuring Wawagun, the Jeongseon travel character. Famous character merchandise, including Wawagun, the guardian of the Arari Forest, and tea ceremony and Mito Gangse, are on display. The store also sells unki stone products mined in Jeongseon and handcrafted items. The store also offers a foot bath healing room where you can enjoy tea and the Wawa Guesthouse, which costs 15,000 won per night.
