To listen to the full album    • তিন কবির গান । Nilufar Yasmeen  ।  Atulpra...   Nilufar Yasmeen (February 13, 1948 – 2003) was a Bangladeshi singer. Her father, Lutfar Rahman, was a former provincial Civil servant of British India and her mother Begum Mouluda Khatun from Murshidabad was a vocal artist who took music lessons from musician Ustad Kader Baksh. Nilufar passed HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) in 1965. Then she entered and graduated from Dhaka University in Social Science. Yasmeen completed her bachelor's and master's in sociology from the University of Dhaka in 1968 and 1970 respectively. She first took classical music lessons from PC Gomes in 1964. Later she took training from Prashun Bandyopadhyay, Mira Bandyopadhyay, Sagiruddin Khan, Fazlul Haq, and A. Daud. She took Nazrul song lessons from Sheikh Lutfar Rahman and Sudhin Das. She was the fourth of five Yasmeen sisters of Bangladesh music. The four others are: Farida Yasmin, Fauzia Yasmin, Nazma Yasmin, and Sabina Yasmin. Nilufar Yasmeen sang classical, Nazrul Sangeet, and Kirtan, Atulprasad, Dwijendralal and Rajanikanta, even Puratoni, Tappa, and Thungri. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2004 by the Government of Bangladesh. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her performance in the film Shuvoda (1986). The University of Dhaka appointed her as lecturer in the Department of Dramatic Arts and Music in 1995. Nilufar Yasmeen died of cancer on 10 March 2003. ================================== Bengal Foundation has been promoting Bengali music for decades in order to nurture and uphold the musical traditions of Bengal.
