President William Ruto's Full Speech on Fuel Crisis in Mombasa
The President met all matatu operators who had earlier in the week initiated a nationwide strike, which lasted for two days, in protest of the heightened fuel prices. The operators, together with the President, agreed to call off the strike, which had earlier been suspended pending intervention from the government. The current fuel crisis stems from the ongoing war between Iran and Israel-US, which started on February 28, 2026. The Strait of Hormuz, a key passage point that controls 20% of global fuel passage, is largely controlled by Iran.
