Whether the young British musician Laura Jurd draws from jazz or rock, orchestral contemporary music or archaic folklore, her music becomes a multifaceted hybrid that often presents itself as aesthetically and stylistically diverse. The trumpeter and composer is concerned with authenticity and individuality in her music; she is also committed to giving the musicians in her various large ensembles the opportunity to reveal their own identities through their respective personal expressions. Recently, Jurd has further explored her love for traditional music and folklore. With her new quartet, she takes it a step further. The dynamic guitar-drums duo of Tara Cunningham and Corrie Dick serves as the foundation for an imaginary folklore that allows her on trumpet and Cori Smith on viola to play across different musical genres with ease.
