Cowboy Dressage with Eitan Beth-Halachmy, Fly Lead Changes

Eitan Beth-Halachmy, perhaps best known for Cowboy Dressage, talks about lead changes in this video clip.  He explains them very clearly and the video shows in slow motion the beats to a lope and when the cue for a lead change should occur.  Eitan also explains that talking about lead changes is easy enough but actually doing them is another story.  There are a lot of things going on at the same time and lead changes require very good timing.  It’s not enough to know how to do it; you have to know when to do it.  Horses, of course, need to be taught how to interpret our cues.  People can have a difficult time simple not interfering with the horse so teaching a maneuver that requires good timing can be especially difficult.  Eitan takes the viewer through the steps but also adds that using a professional trainer to teach the horse the cues can be very helpful.  This series is presented by http://SpaldingFlyPredators.com and if you just can't wait for our new Friday horse training series to publish, you can watch Eitan's entire series at http://spalding-labs.com/NY035
