"The Prisoner of the Chateau d'If" is a Ukrainian three-part feature film shot in 1988 at the Odesa Film Studio by director Georgy Yungvald-Khilkevich based on the immortal novel by Alexandre Dumas "The Count of Monte Cristo". The film consists of three parts: "Abbé Faria", "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "I Will Repay". To screen such a famous work is not an easy task, because directors are often forced to make changes, losing certain details of the plot. However, Yungvald-Khilkevich's film amazed viewers with its scale, emotional depth and fidelity to the spirit of the novel. The plot centers on the story of Edmond Dantes, who dreams of marrying his beloved girl, but becomes a victim of betrayal and false accusation. He is imprisoned in the gloomy Château d'If, where he must spend the rest of his life. A fateful meeting with Abbot Faria and his own determination give him freedom. Having become rich, Dantes becomes the Count of Monte Cristo and begins a path of revenge on those who ruined his life. Seeing his face, Yungvald-Khilkevich realized that he had found his Monte Cristo. The filming took place in the summer of 1987 in Italy, Odesa, Gurzuf, Alushta, Alupka, Livadia, Leningrad, Riga, Tallinn, Paris, Marseille and Bukhara. A significant part of the work was carried out in the pavilions of the Odessa Film Studio, where the interiors of the prison and the scenery of the Caderousse tavern were created. For Anna Samokhina and Nadira Mirzayeva, this was the first appearance on screen.
