Halley's story

Last week our FOK hotline received a call reporting a koala entangled in netting. Two of our rescuers attended to assess, discovering the sub-adult koala in a precarious situation - perched high in a fork, with netting visible around her neck, torso and limbs. A few things were immediately clear: that the fork height was inaccessible with standard rescue equipment, the tree limbs too flimsy for climbing, and timing was crucial due to the heightened risk of injury or stress to the koala. Halley and our rescuers were incredibly lucky in this instance to receive help from a local Police Rescue Unit. The rescue took over 3 hours to get her. While they wished to remain anonymous, we hope they see this footage of Halley going back home! Following a short stay at FOK as a precaution, little Halley was cleared by the veterinary team to return to the wild
