The PASSATO PROSSIMO is one of the most frequently used verb tenses in Italian. In this video, I explain it in a simple way for Spanish speakers. The PASSATO PROSSIMO is a simple verb tense. The most important thing is knowing when to use the auxiliary verb AVERE and when to use the auxiliary verb ESSERE. The auxiliary verb AVERE is used with transitive verbs and some verbs of motion. On the other hand, the auxiliary verb ESSERE is used: 1. with verbs of motion; 2. with verbs of change/evolution in the subject; 3. with reflexive and reciprocal verbs; 4. with some verbs that are usually used in the 3rd person singular and plural accompanied by an indirect object pronoun; 5. with verbs that indicate stato in luogo (state in place). Finally, the most complicated part involves verbs that are sometimes conjugated with AVERE and other times with ESSERE, such as: 1. modal verbs and 2. the verbs cambiare, Aumentare, finire, cominciare, salire, and scendere.
