Normandy Beach, NJ - Ocean Terrace Devastation After Sandy - Nov,13, 2012

People have requested identifying intersections to help them get oriented: 1: The first footage of devastation - where houses have been swept off their foundations - is at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Ocean Terrace. 2: The second segment - with the brown house collapsed onto itself - is just north of 5th Avenue. 3: The final segment, with the yellow house with dormers in the roof, is the corner of 7th Avenue. We were among the homeowners cleared for access by Toms River Township on November 13, 2012. Although our time was limited, I was able to walk around Normandy Shores briefly with a tiny video cam in order to provide a quick glimpse of the current situation for other homeowners. See my other videos for that footage. Although beachfront homes in Normandy Shores were badly damaged, widespread destruction elsewhere is staggering. We walked into Normandy Beach to check on a friend's house and this is what we found along Ocean Terrace around 4th to 7th Avenue. As you can see, many of the homes along Ocean Terrace have red "X's" meaning condemned. Many thanks to an outstanding team of police officers, national guard, state guard, the Army Corps of Engineers. The crew is incredibly well-organized, efficient and thorough, and every person we encountered was supportive and sympathetic. The work already done to stabilize the barrier island in only two weeks has truly been amazing.
