March 20, 1993: A2: Géopolis: The Inuit, Such a Beautiful Past. To coincide with the theatrical release of Jacques Dorfmann's film Agakuk, a special screening was organized in the Arctic. The Inuit, inhabitants of Puvirnituq and the surrounding area, most of whom were extras in the film, attended the screening. Géopolis magazine presents, in tribute to the Inuit: A retrospective, using geographical maps, on the history of the Inuit migration from Siberia to Alaska, to northern Canada and Greenland via the Bering Strait... Drawings and engravings depicting the organization and traditional way of life of this nomadic people. An archival montage recounts the arrival of the first European explorers in the 15th century. In the 20th century, starting in the 1960s, the Cold War transformed the entire polar region. The Inuit became sedentary, losing their identity only to rediscover it through resistance movements in the 1970s and by building their own future. They found their own solution to the modern world, reclaiming their identity. CAB09004459
