Watch Part 2, the back 9, here:    • Montague Golf Club (Vt.) with Hickory Golf...   Golf at Montague dates back to 1897 when wealthy New York financier and philanthropist Robert Kimball laid out an 1,800-yard course on the site for his family and friends. In 1913, the nine-hole course was organized as a membership and it became the second oldest golf course in Vermont. Montague remained a nine-hole course until 1992 when a large land acquisition adjacent to the existing golf course made expansion to 18 holes possible. While there isn't a notable designer attributed to the original design at Montague, Geoffrey Cornish is credited by the course for his work on expanding and restoring the existing course. Laid out next to the Third Branch of the White River, Montague suffered extensive flood damage from Hurricane Irene in 2011. The Montague Vermont Hickory Classic celebrated its 11th installment in 2021 and features a modified Stableford scoring format. It's organized and hosted by Vermont hickory golfer Allen Johnson with the staff at Montague Golf Club.
