This is a drive on US Route 522 going southbound from near Warfordsburg, PA to south of Winchester, VA. All four of US 522’s states are featured in this drive: Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. US 522 traverses the thinnest portion of Maryland in the Hancock, MD area. US 522 can serve as a shortcut between the Interstate 70 and Interstate 81 corridors for travelers driving to points south. Because it is a shortcut cutting off the corner between Interstates 70 and 81 in Hagerstown, MD, there are traffic concerns along the route in West Virginia where it is a 2-lane road and through Berkeley Springs, WV, the only town along the route between the two Interstate Corridors.
