On this program you will see: 00:00 News 28:04 Jose Antonio Reyes 36:14 Ophelia Smith Improving public safety remains one of San Pedro Alcántara Town Hall's top priorities. Work is currently underway to replace almost 40 street lights along Avenida de Salamanca and surrounding streets, enhancing both safety and the appearance of the area. The lighting upgrade programme will also be extended to other parts of the town. This summer, two local football clubs have given Marbella plenty to celebrate. Atlético Marbella Paraíso and Pablo Picasso Women's First Team have both secured promotion to the Third Federation, earning a civic reception from the Mayor in recognition of their outstanding achievements and their role as ambassadors for the town. For more than 30 years, the family of Mateo Álvarez fought to ensure that the land he donated to Marbella Town Hall at the historic Trapiche del Prado would be used for the benefit of the community. It will soon become the city's first publicly owned residential care home and with construction now in its final stages, the family has been able to visit the site and see their relative's vision becoming a reality. Marbella Town Hall is changing the regulations governing licences for minor building works. Until now, projects costing up to 10,000 euros have been exempt from licence fees. That threshold is now set to rise to 15,000 euros, reducing costs for homeowners while also making the administrative process quicker and simpler. Shade becomes a precious commodity during the height of summer. On days like these, having a cool, sheltered space can make all the difference when it comes to holding community activities. With that in mind, Marbella Town Hall has installed a new pergola at the Santa Marta Community Centre, while improvement works are also continuing inside the building I previously mentioned Marbella Town Hall's plans to update its planning regulations to encourage business growth. Marbella's beaches are busier than ever this summer, but so too is the growing problem of invasive Asian algae. The Town Hall is working around the clock to remove the seaweed, which affects the appearance of the coastline and requires a huge investment of time and money. The council is once again calling on other public authorities to help tackle the problem. After the summer, Marbella Town Hall will begin the long-awaited refurbishment of Calle de Los Romeros in San Pedro Alcántara. The project will focus on improving accessibility and sustainability, with an investment of almost one million euros. Work is expected to be completed during 2027. Three Marbella firefighters have returned home after an extremely challenging deployment to Venezuela, where they spent last week helping with rescue operations following the devastating earthquakes. We've reported on their mission in previous news bulletins. On their return, the Mayor welcomed them at the Town Hall to thank them for their dedication and solidarity. The information boards at the Tres Jardines Park have been replaced after years of wear and tear. The new signage is designed not only to improve the park's appearance, but also to help visitors make better use of its facilities. It is the latest improvement carried out by the San Pedro Deputy Mayor's Office.
