Follow me on the Simone jig adventures Facebook page   / simonechiariglione   Episode 2 Let's create a simple and functional rig when we don't have ready-made rigs to swap out, because the fish are active and we need to get back to fishing right away. We take a 0.60 fluorocarbon and two J-hooks with bent eyes, but before attaching them to the line, we need to protect them because all trolling hooks have an unwelded eye, which will break our fluorocarbon, causing us to lose the fish. To protect that unwelded part, the quickest solution is to tape the eye part with electrical tape, also taking a couple of millimeters of the shank. Once protected, we can insert our trolling hook onto the line, then we take a silicone tube of the kind used for floats, size 2.5 or 3, and we insert the fluorocarbon inside, then pass the tube through the hook, sliding it until it stops on the eye. To give the right pull to the towing hook, you need to tie a piece of 0.50 line onto the tube and tie a knot. Here, too, you can create different types of knots; I prefer the classic knot. Make about fifteen downward turns, then close by passing the line through the loop you created at the beginning and tighten firmly to give the right pull. Next, you need to insert a shock absorber and tie the towing hook directly onto the shank, with the eye bent. Here, you can tie any type of knot to connect spade or bent-eye hooks. Then, we attach a swivel to the free end to relieve twisting. Our rig is ready to go to sea.
