■ Kim Chang-ok (49), a YouTube legend with 100 million views, lived a full life. He performed on stage over 500 times a year, constantly connecting with people. One day, questions posed to him, such as, "How long has it been since you felt happy?" and "Will you continue to live as you have lived so far?" Instead of answering, he went back to his hometown of Jeju Island in search of nature. With an annual tax of 3 million won, he lives in a very old house without a front door. In Jeju, he has hometown friends who are as constant as the soil, stones, sea, and trees. Tired of the fast-paced life of highway driving, Kim Chang-ok found a breath of fresh air in his 30-year-old friend and the island's natural beauty. Kim Chang-ok now rides a used motorcycle, taking a leisurely stroll. He longs to be simply "Kim Chang-ok," not "Lecturer Kim Chang-ok," and so, he takes a break from his everyday life on Jeju Island... He heals himself through physical labor in nature and finds true happiness. Insights into life gained through simple movements and the philosophy of nature are seeping into him. It's an early morning in Jeju, and Kim Chang-ok, seemingly just awoken, gazes out at the open yard. Unlike his appearance on stage, his appearance is disheveled, but his face seems much lighter. Leaving home, Kim Chang-ok starts the scooter parked in the yard. Following the stone wall path, he heads toward the Jeju seashore. Kim Chang-ok is experiencing Haenam for the first time. Donning a wetsuit, still too heavy for him to wear alone, strapping a lead to his waist, he plunges into the turquoise waters. Rather than digging for conches and abalone hidden beneath the sea, he relishes the moment when the sea water meets his body, the moment of becoming one with nature. Focusing solely on the sound of his own breathing, he feels a "moment of true breathing." Furthermore, Kim Chang-ok naturally follows the line of haenyeo (female divers) heading to the water. He waves to them as they enter the water. He says that we, all of us who hold our breath in our daily lives, are like haenyeo. That's why I love the word "mulmajung," which means "welcoming someone who is out of breath," which means watching over them, waiting for them, and reaching out. For Kim Chang-ok, the sea is a place where I can face myself and breathe... That's how I communicate, concentrating on the sound of my own breathing within nature. The most meaningful time for Kim Chang-ok in Jeju is stone piling. He builds a stone wall in a vast field. He, who speaks breathlessly on stage, carries a large stone for hours without saying a word. Why does he bother lifting such heavy stones? Kim Chang-ok says he wants to earn money to buy the time he spends carrying stones. It's because it's time to meet his father. Now, the son can lift the weight his father, a stonemason, once carried. Only then does he realize the weight of those stones his father carried. As he stacks the stones, he restores the stone wall to its proper place, preventing it from collapsing. Through the time spent stacking stones, Kim Chang-ok also returns to his place. For Kim Chang-ok, physical labor goes beyond mere hardship. It allows him to encounter the realization and preciousness of his own existence as "me," "father," or "that man." In nature, Kim Chang-ok rediscovers himself. Born and raised in Jeju, he has finally developed an eye for seeing and appreciating the good in the world. And once a month! On Jeju Island, where he has relocated his life, he is reconnecting with family and friends. In nature, his priorities have shifted, and he has been able to reflect on his own heart.
