TO BE CONTINUED ‼️DANAIS KERATON YOGYAKARTA TRANSFORMED A SELF-SETTLED HALL IN THE ANCIENT BENGAWAN SOLO RIVER VALLEY This is one of the southern cross-country roads connecting Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta, with Wonogiri Regency, Central Java. There's an interesting fact about the hamlet we'll visit this time. Behind the towering hills, this was once the source of the Bengawan Solo Puruba River. The legendary Bengawan Solo River doesn't flow north or empty into the Java Sea. Instead, from Mount Lawu, its source, the Bengawan Solo Puruba River flows south and empties into Sadeng Beach in the Indian Ocean. But why did this change? Well… because about 4 million years ago, a shift in the Earth's plates occurred. As a result, the Bengawan Solo River's flow reversed to the north. The former Bengawan Solo Puruba River then created a valley, and in one of these valleys lies a very unique hamlet called Wotawati Hamlet. In Wotawati Hamlet, the sun only shines for about 7 hours a day. It rises around 8 or 9 a.m. and sets at 4 p.m. To get to the location, it's only about 4 kilometers from the southern Girisubo route. The road we took was narrow, narrow, and a bit steep. This is the entrance to Wotawati Hamlet. The atmosphere is very pristine. To the left and right are towering hills and many ancient pillars. Now the hamlet itself is starting to come into view, far below. All the walls and fences resemble those of Majapahit-era houses. Beautiful. Walking here, you'll feel like you've been transported back to the 13th century. The atmosphere is incredibly natural and beautiful. Remember, this hamlet is located right on the former course of the ancient Pengawan Solo River. It is located at the bottom of the basin and surrounded by hills on the west and east sides. Based on information I have obtained, despite being at the bottom of the valley, the hamlet of Wotawati never floods. Rainwater that falls from the sky simply passes through this hamlet and then flows to Sadeng Beach, which is the estuary of the ancient Pengawan Solo River. Wotawati Hamlet, consisting of 82 families and covering an area of ​​approximately 12 hectares, is part of Pucung Village, Girisubo District, Gunung Kidul Regency. Its geographical contour is surrounded by towering ancient hills. This naturally makes the sun appear to rise later and set earlier. Previously, this hamlet was one of the most underdeveloped villages in Gunung Kidul. Thankfully, in recent years, this hamlet has received special funding from the Yogyakarta Provincial Government. These funds are allocated to transform Wotawati Hamlet into an integrated tourist destination. So, don't be surprised... If you walk around Wotawati Hamlet, you'll feel like you're in the capital of the Majapahit Kingdom.
