Shohei Ohtani Just Became The No. 1 All-Star Vote Getter For The First Time In His Entire Career Shohei Ohtani has four MVP awards. He has done just about everything you can do on a baseball field. And yet, until this season, there was one thing he had never pulled off. Not once. He had never been the number one All-Star vote getter in all of baseball. It sounds almost ridiculous once you hear it. A four-time MVP, a guy people are openly calling the best to ever play, and he had gone his entire career without finishing as the top overall pick of the fans. He had been an All-Star plenty of times. He had started games. But being the single most voted player in the whole sport had always slipped past him. This season, for the first time ever, he did it. He finished Phase 1 ahead of every other player in both leagues. And he did not squeak by. When the first round closed, Ohtani had piled up more than three million votes. A landslide. And here is the wild part. Fans only vote for position players in this round. They do not vote for pitchers at all. So every single one of his votes came from him being a hitter, while the other half of his game was not even on the ballot. He topped the entire sport using half of what makes him special. Being the top vote getter also locks him directly into the starting lineup. He is already the National League's starting designated hitter, with a real chance of pitching in the game too. The American League fan leader was Ernie Clement of the Blue Jays. The full starting lineups get announced July 4th, with the game on July 14th at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
