The oldest wheat in Anatolia is grown in Kılıçkaya Village, which is affiliated to the central district of Erzincan. According to records from 1928, the village's old name was Mercan Sürbahanı. The word "surp ohan" in Armenian means "Saint Ohan". Kılıçkaya, which is 24 km away from Erzincan city center, takes its name from Kılıç Kaya, an extension of the Munzur Mountains behind it. We attended the Aşure event organized in the village under the leadership of female headman Filiz Düzgünkaya. The local residents of the village came and settled in this village from the Ovacık district of Tunceli in the 1840s. In the past, animal husbandry and agriculture were practiced in the village, but when the young people went to the cities, now the only people left are the retirees who come in the summer and the elderly who live in the village. On the other hand, we learned about Turkey's ancestral wheat with Hasan Ali Düzgünkaya, who produces black wheat in Kılıçkaya Village, Erzincan. Karakılçık, the oldest wheat in Anatolia, has an unchanging DNA and is among the wheats with the least gluten content...
