[Video of a Fall Accident on Mt. Nokoyama (Kawabe-cho and Shichiso-cho, Kamo-gun, Gifu Prefecture)] On May 24th, 2026 (Sunday), I experienced a fall accident near the second observation deck on the intermediate course of Mt. Nokoyama in Gifu Prefecture. It was my first fall accident, but I managed to grab onto a tree midway through the fall, preventing me from falling down the cliff ahead. Fortunately, my injuries were minor, and I was able to climb back up from where I fell by grabbing onto a tree, and somehow safely return to the course and descend the mountain. This video was uploaded because it happened to capture the moment of my fall. I uploaded it hoping to convey the fear of falling, to show that falls can happen surprisingly close to home, and to let people know that anyone is at risk of having an accident. Mt. Nokoyama is a low mountain with an elevation of 632m. The intermediate course on Mt. Nokoyama is a challenging but popular course that many people climb. Despite it being a mountain so close to home, I unfortunately suffered a fall. Until now, even after seeing news reports of falls, I was overconfident, thinking that it would never happen to me, that I could never fall. However, I learned firsthand that even I, with such confidence, can fall due to unexpected circumstances. A slight lapse in attention, a lapse in focus, using a smartphone while hiking, or taking photos while hiking—if your attention becomes distracted, a fall can happen to anyone. Although I suffered a fall, a series of fortunate events allowed me to upload this video of the fall. If I hadn't gotten caught on a tree, I wouldn't have been able to upload this video. Thinking about that makes me truly afraid of mountains. And it was a miracle that the moment of my fall was captured on video. That's why I think it will allow everyone to understand the dangers of mountains. Despite this fall, I still want to climb mountains in the future. I would like to climb Mt. Nokoyama again, the mountain I climbed this time. To that end, I intend to reflect deeply on this fall accident, discipline myself, and approach the mountains with sincerity. Furthermore, I hope that many people will understand that falling accidents are not something that only happens to others, that they can happen to anyone, and that they will think about how to prevent them.
