The government is investing 800 trillion won in the Southwest region and 81 trillion won in the Chungcheong region to promote three major mega-projects. At the National Briefing on the Three Major Mega-Projects for Korea's Great Leap Forward held at the Blue House today (the 29th), Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeong-kwan stated, "We will develop the Southwest region into a second semiconductor production base," adding, "We will build four memory fabs through corporate investments totaling 800 trillion won." He also announced that regarding the 81 trillion won investment, "we will foster an advanced packaging hub in the Chungcheong region capable of responding to the demand for semiconductor production and packaging," and "we will develop the Southeast Daegu-Gyeongbuk region into a large-scale semiconductor hub and develop it into a next-generation innovation base for strategic semiconductors." Minister Kim went on to emphasize the importance of leading the next-generation semiconductor market, stating, "We will invest 30 trillion won over 15 years to support the entire cycle, from R&D and design to demonstration and manufacturing."
