Beginners Berimbau Tutorial: Learn the Basics

There are mainly 3 types of berimbaus: The viola (highest pitch--solo instrument) The medio (middle pitch--rhythm instrument) The gunga (lowest pitch--bass instrument) *There is also a Berra Boi, an even bigger and lower pitched gunga When learning the Berimbau it is good to learn the basic clapping of Capoeira rhythms (palma de Bima and Palma de terreiro). It is also good to know the pandeiro toque, cadencia, and atabaque toques. These toques will help you understand the box that the berimbau toque fits in, and give you the swing of the rhythms. When just starting to learn the berimbau, I recommend learning the following rhythm first. XX100 This is Sao Bento Grande de Angola They play it in most Contemporanea and Angola groups.
