The Most Dangerous RPG in the World
Hey again everyone. We're back today with another TTRPG story, this time featuring Steve Jackson Game's GURPS Cyberpunk. Written by Loyd Blankenship, one of the internets earliest and most influential hackers. Known online as the Mentor, Loyd was a core member of the 1980s hacking group the Legion of Doom. The Legion of Doom kept quite busy in the wild west days of BBSes (Bulletin Board Systems). They were on the forefront of modern hacking and phone phreaking advancements which they happily shared with others. This giving attitude unfortunately drew them the ire of the federal government as others used their techniques to cause chaos across the country. The governments gaze would eventually fall on Loyd Blankenship and Steve Jackson Games, aimed primarily at their Illuminati BBS and its cyberpunk chatter. This would eventually lead to a raid of Loyd's home and his employer Steve Jackson games, with the men in black confiscating GURPS Cyberpunk for months. SJG would win in the end however, successfully suing the United States government for damages. #ttrpg #cyberpunk #tabletopgaming Timestamps: 00:00 - Intro 1:20 - What is a BBS? 3:15 - The Legion of Doom 6:15 - Palm Beach Prank 8:32 - Fry Guy 10:15 - Fry and the Atlanta LOD Arrested 12:30 - The AT&T Hack 13:35 - The Mentor 15:45 - The SJG Raid 17:00 - The Dawn of the EFF
