👉 Thousands of Venezuelans in Spain are anxiously following the anguish and horror of their families and loved ones back home after two powerful earthquakes struck central Venezuela. The quakes, measuring 7.5 and 7.2 on the Richter scale, have left at least 164 dead and more than a thousand injured. Some 700,000 Venezuelans live and work in Spain. Early Thursday morning was difficult for thousands of compatriots trying to locate their loved ones, struggling to make calls and send messages, in a desperate search amidst the aftermath of the earthquakes. The death toll is sure to rise as rescue efforts continue. Alessandro Testa, president of the Association of Venezuelans in Extremadura, described the desolation and uncertainty surrounding the whereabouts of many family members and announced the creation of a platform to help search for missing persons. Pedro Javier Arriaga, a Spaniard residing in Venezuela and former president of the Basque Center in Caracas, experienced the earthquake and has to take shelter in a tent because his building was damaged by the tremors.
