Cocoon | Calarts Film 2026

A film by daixuan (129mlwater on instagram) The ending of this short film contains flashing images that may affect photosensitive viewers. This is my third-year film at CalArts. This story is Inspired by Edogawa Ranpo’s novel, A Brute’s Love. Ranpo’s work profoundly shaped my aesthetic and taste. He means alot to me. The visual direction of this film is heavily influenced by Salvador Dalí, along with lots of other painters I’ve admired over the years. In many ways, this film is a reflection of my personal artistic evolution. I also did sound design myself this year; this is my first time doing sound design, it was a really fun experience._(:3 」∠)_ This is also my first time posting my film on social media, this film is kinda special for me, so I decided to post it. Its completion is thanks to the support of my teachers, peers, and family. I am especially grateful to the two friends who coordinated the Japanese voice acting for me; their help was essential and meant a great deal to me. It really means a lot.
