I am no longer a Phanatik for Christian mythology - Brady Goodwin

Today I spoke with Brady "Phanatik" Goodwin, a formerly Christian rapper with The Cross Movement who deconverted after deeply investigating the Bible and the claims of Christianity. As we talked through his story, we touched on many topics, including: • Being raised in a prosperity-gospel church context. • Watching his mom consistently pray for him. • Growing up not so much fearing hell itself but instead fearing going through life without the protection of the Yahweh character from bad forces and experiences in life. • Repeatedly "getting saved" in church by renouncing sin and turning to Jesus. • At age 15, getting very serious about the Lord and about sharing the Gospel with others. • Believing and preaching that we all were unrighteous in the sight of Yahweh and deserving of hell. • Feeling like it was an honor to investigate the mysteries and tensions of the messages of the Bible. • Realizing that Paul's message about the Gospel contradicts both Jesus as well as the Old Testament. • Seeing the theology and message of the Bible increasingly falling apart despite his best efforts to keep it together and keep believing. • Acknowledging that critical information about the origins of the Bible were withheld from us and that and any ideas that diverged from traditional Christian interpretations of the Bible were made to look bad, foolish, and irrelevant. • In the midst of his faith dissipating, asking the Yahweh character to supernaturally reveal himself if he is real. • How the questions asked by progressive Christians, especially in light of understanding evolution, led him to not just deconstruct, but to fully deconvert. • Admitting that Christianity is mythology and is based on earlier mythologies. • Having close friends label him an enemy of the cross and begin to attack him. • Focusing on the goal of spending the rest of his life actualizing all of his potential and removing false ideas. • The importance of giving others a much better morality than the morality of the psychopathic Yahweh character and of giving the next generation the crucial gift of thought autonomy.
