O risco de destruição das geleiras na Argentina: um drama latino-americano
Interview with geographer and professor Marcelo Giraud by journalist Elaine Tavares. He explains the changes made by the Argentine Congress to the Glacier Protection Law. The law, approved in 2008, guaranteed investment and protection for glaciers – which are a common good and a heritage of humanity – prohibiting all types of extractive activity. With lobbying from mining companies, the changes approved this year open the floodgates to the destruction of glaciers due to mining, and incidentally put the country's water supply at risk.
