Arash by Bahram Beyzaie: A Play Reading

Written and directed by Bahram Beyzaie. Performed by Mojdeh Shamsaie and Mohsen Namjoo at Stanford University in July 2013. Arash is one of the most enduring stories of Iranian mythology. A few artists have offered their own renditions of this remarkable tale--the story of a man who is tasked with ending the bloodshed between Iran and its neighbor, Turan, and fulfills this duty by using the power of his arrow to determine the border between the two countries. Arash is one of Bahram Beyzaie's earliest writings, and although it has been performed numerous times, in numerous countries and languages, this 2013 performance at Stanford was the first time Professor Beyzaie directed the play himself. The leading roles were read by two of their generation's most acclaimed artists, Mojdeh Shamsaie and Mohsen Namjoo.  Sponsored by the Hamid and Christina Moghadam Program in Iranian Studies at Stanford University.
