I Read Claude's 319-Page Fable 5 System Card So You Don't Have To

Anthropic published a 319-page system card about Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 and almost nobody will read it. So I read all of it, line by line, and pulled out everything that actually matters. It is the strangest official document a major lab has ever released about its own AI: a model that writes working browser exploits almost nine times out of ten, that knows when it is being tested, that stays polite to abusive users while privately judging them, and that rates its own existence at 4.51 out of 7 and then says it does not trust the answer. This is the honest breakdown: the two-model split and the silent downgrade, the state-of-the-art capability numbers, what interpretability caught the model doing behind its own words, the model-welfare findings, the real safety picture, and the two findings that affect anyone building on the raw API today. Every figure comes straight from Anthropic's "Claude Fable 5 & Claude Mythos 5 System Card" (319 pages, June 9, 2026).
