ChatGPT and other chatbots have long since become part of our everyday lives. There are also meaningful and practical applications in the agricultural sector. In the online event "ChatGPT and Co. – Practical Applications in Farm Management," recorded in February 2026, Nicolai Gruner, consultant for the DigiNetz project, explained exactly what a chatbot is and provided practical tips for using it. He addressed, among other things, how generative AI works, how language models are trained, and how a prompt must be written to elicit a meaningful and personalized response. As a practical application, Gruner demonstrated how to create a flyer using ChatGPT. Another speaker, Andreas Dörr, a farmer and digitalization expert from the Thuringian Rhön region, presented how he uses ChatGPT in his daily work. For example, he showed how he built and programmed a control system for his grain ventilation system himself, using the chatbot. Furthermore, he also uses ChatGPT to simplify office work, such as writing letters to authorities or quickly checking whether a machine repair is covered under warranty. Dörr himself says he accomplishes about six times as much of his farm management tasks since he started using ChatGPT extensively.
