The First Hours Didn’t Go the Way Russia Planned...

On the twenty-fourth of February, 2022, mere hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his country's 'special military operation' in Ukraine, Russian troops from the Airborne Forces descended on Antonov Airport, in the rural settlement of Hostomel. Despite the small size of the town, Russian forces wished to capture its strategic position, just north west of the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, where additional equipment could be air lifted in to target larger settlements.
