Cowal Highland Gathering

Cowal Highland Gathering (Episode 1.4) - Nestled amongst castles, distilleries and rocky cliffs, county Cowal is typical of the picturesque Scottish Highlands-- an area that celebrates its distinct and unique heritage with dance, bagpipe, and strongman competitions collectively known as the Highland Games. Host Guad Venegas starts his adventure in the city of Glasgow with a stop at one of the city’s most famous landmarks, the Willow Tea Room, where he samples some of their renowned blends. Rejuvenated and ready for anything, Guad travels to the small seaside town of Dunoon, for the country’s largest and most important Highland Gathering, the Cowal Highland Games. There, Guad dons a kilt and meets a dance instructor who shows him that there’s a lot more to Highland dance than hopping on one foot. Channeling his inner Braveheart, Guad persuades some of the strong man competitors to coach him on how to stone put the famous Cowal stone. Although they may look like fun and games to the average spectator, Guad learns that there’s a lot more skill involved in these ancient contests than meets the eye.
