SCENIC UGANDA DRIVE: Jinja to Iganga - Uganda. • Fertile Agricultural Land

Gently rolling hills... Iganga is one of the most important districts in eastern Uganda. It lies within the Busoga sub-region and serves as a major center for trade, agriculture, education, and transportation. The district headquarters is located in Iganga Municipality, a bustling town situated along the main highway that connects Kampala to eastern Uganda and neighboring Kenya. Because of its strategic location, Iganga acts as a gateway between central and eastern Uganda and plays a significant role in the country's economy. Iganga District is located in the Eastern Region of Uganda. It borders several districts, including Bugweri, Namutumba, Kaliro, Mayuge, and Luuka. The district covers approximately 1,000 square kilometers and consists of both urban and rural areas. Iganga experiences a tropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year. The district receives adequate rainfall, making farming possible in most seasons. There are two major rainy seasons: 1. March to May 2. September to November Average temperatures range between 20°C and 30°C. The climate supports the cultivation of a wide variety of crops and contributes significantly to food production in the region. Historically, Iganga has been part of the Busoga Kingdom, one of Uganda's traditional kingdoms. The area has long been inhabited by the Basoga people, who are known for their rich cultural heritage and traditions.
