That way I can use track saw clamps to grip the pieces I need to cut. This will help when I need to establish a straight edge on rough-cut boards. The saw rides along a small aluminium channel cut down to maximize depth of cut. I also made a small shoe/skate that can ride the channel and keep the saw straight.
