The flight qualities of these pigeons are easily passed on if the breed is kept pure. The general training principles are identical to those for high-flying pigeons. During training, fighting pigeons sometimes become disoriented in the air while performing the "fight," tumbling and falling onto roofs, trees, and the ground. As fanciers say, "the pigeon gets beat up." Pigeons often suffer injuries and die as a result of falls. To correct this flight pattern disorder, fanciers employ the following measures: clipping the vanes of several tail feathers or plucking them; for 2-3 weeks, the pigeon is "pinned," meaning a small pin is used to pierce the outermost flight feather and pin the remaining primary flight feathers. The pigeon is occasionally "stirred" and startled. With the pin, the pigeon is unable to take off and beats its wings above the ground. After removing the pin, the pigeon is placed on the hand and gently, almost tossed. A click, and the pigeon is back on the hand. This should be repeated several times. However, it should be remembered that not every pigeon responds to this training. If it is unsuccessful, the training course is repeated after 2-3 weeks. Young pigeons begin to strike differently. Some are early and some are late strikers. The former begin to fly at 2 months of age, while the latter begin at 6-10 months, and sometimes as late as 2-3 years. Young pigeons initially struggle with somersaults; they flip onto their tails—"tail-roll"—and lose altitude. Subsequently, they develop clumsy somersaults, and after 1-2 months, the basic elements of a fight emerge. Many fighting enthusiasts point out that the final flight style of young birds is established only the following year, after the chicks hatch. Fighting pigeons display their best and most beautiful flight in pairs, when they have chicks and are preparing for their next clutch. The hens' flight and play abilities reach their peak after one year, while the hens' flight abilities peak at 2-3 years. When a large group is raised to flight, many pigeons stop playing. No more than 8-10 birds should be raised to flight: with this number, they play better and more frequently and display a beautiful flight. After the fall-winter hiatus, fighting pigeons regain their flying ability after 1-2 weeks of daily flights. Trained fighting pigeons can fly for up to 6 hours or more. #pigeon #pigeons #falcon
