Η αξία των μη γραμμικών διαδρομών | Panayiota Poirazi | TEDxUniversityofCrete
On the TEDxUniversityofCrete stage, Panayiota Poirazi spoke to us about the transformative value of non-linear paths in science and life, demonstrating how her journey between mathematics and biology led her to discover the hidden computational role of dendrites and to change the way we understand both biological and artificial intelligence. Panayiota (Yiota) Poirazi is a Research Director and Head of the Dendrites Lab at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) in Heraklion, Crete. Her research spans Computational and Experimental Neuroscience and Bio-inspired Machine Learning, focusing on how dendrites contribute to neural computations and form the basis of complex brain functions. She has received numerous accolades, including an Einstein Foundation Fellowship, the Alexander von Humboldt Wilhelm Bessel Research Award, an ERC Starting Grant, and the SNF-HFRI Theodore Papazoglou Award for achieving an "A" rating in the 2023 ERC Advanced Grant call. She is the founder of the EMBO Workshop on Dendrites, which has been held biennially in Crete since 2016. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
