The Nature Of Art | A documentary about nature inspired artist Hakim El Amrani
“Nature is a collective reality. We are not going to debate whether grass is grass, or whether a tree is a tree. To Fix the outer nature, we need to fix our inner nature first” – Hakim El Amrani For Hakim El Amrani, nature-inspired artist and biophilic designer, nature is humanity’s most fundamental shared reality. Drawing from this shared reality, he creates organic abstract paintings, objects, sculptures and spaces that continually remind people of what we are: one with nature. His work is about remembrance, the inner journey back to connection, wellbeing and awareness. THE ART OF NATURE is a documentary centred on Hakim’s nature-inspired work. It shows how his international projects connect people both within and beyond borders. The documentary explores how a particular perspective can ground us in a collective reality, while still allowing space for individual identity. This is what Hakim calls the “Zoom In, Zoom Out” perspective. In this respect, his signature forms carry many layers of meaning. One of these is the fusion of the tulip and the palm tree, a symbolic meeting of the Netherlands and Morocco that reflects his own cultural identity. Filmed in both the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates, the documentary brings together the people, places and perspectives surrounding an artist who uses art and design to create connections between people and nature, and between people themselves. The documentary features several respected professionals, each with their own relationship to the work of Hakim El Amrani: Yassine Salihine – Chief Curator, Design Museum Den Bosch Gerard Steeghs – Dutch Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Yela Naletto – Senior Commercial and Economic Advisor Netherlands Embassy and Consulate General in the UAE Gervaise Coebergh – Entrepreneur & Investor Mohsin Jawaheri – Super Studio: Dubai’s Premier Destination for Art and Design Philippien Noordam – Senior Art Curator Dutch Art Collection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hakim El Amrani, born in 1981 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with family roots in Marrakesh, Morocco, is the Founder and Head of Design of Studio NousNous.
