What were your thoughts as you listened to my story at the beginning! Haha There are many ways to interpret the Book of Job, but this time, rather than focusing on the reasons for Job's suffering itself, I focused on the attitudes of the "three friends" during his suffering. There's a famous saying by Camus: "Principles apply only to big things; compassion is sufficient for small matters." I believe the Lord's words are similar. In fact, the Lord is the One who, out of love for us, broke even such a great principle (the wages of sin = death). Aren't we holding even greater standards to those who are already discouraged and living in the knowledge of sin? Of course, there are times when we must proclaim the Lord's justice and judgment. But aren't the messages we should be sending, the messages we should be delivering, reaching the wrong places? Those are the thoughts I had. We say we won't compromise with injustice, but aren't we living in a state of strength and weakness? In fact, fighting injustice or calling for justice is often incredibly cumbersome and often involves personal losses. It's easy to criticize someone, but risking your own shame to help someone grow takes a long time, is difficult, and arduous. But there's no love greater than that. Reading the Book of Job, I felt that "silently standing by in the midst of suffering" is enough to feel that kind of love. It was the love Job longed for from his friends, but never received.
