What type of calibration do I need for my measuring instruments? Is factory calibration sufficient, or do I need COFRAC-accredited calibration according to ISO 17025? In this video, we clarify the differences between these two calibration certificates and what you need to consider. At WIKA calibration laboratories, you can have your measuring instruments checked. This check can be carried out as either factory calibration or calibration accredited according to ISO 17025. In both cases, the calibration results are recorded in a calibration certificate, and your measuring instrument, once calibrated, receives a calibration label. The difference is that only calibration according to ISO 17025 guarantees traceability to national standards. In accordance with the order of importance of standards, from the working standard or factory standard to the national standard, via the reference standard, there is a hierarchy among calibration types. Sources of error such as hysteresis and repeatability are also measured and then recorded along with the measurement deviation and the uncertainty of the standard, and subsequently summarized in the expanded measurement uncertainty. Compared to factory calibration, calibration according to ISO 17025 is therefore more precise, more thorough, and also internationally recognized.
