Epic Road Trip Across IRAQ – Is It Safe? | Marshes, Baghdad & Kurdistan

Is it possible to drive through Iraq from south to north? And most importantly: Is it safe? On our way back home to Europe this is the question we ask ourselves a lot. Now we can say: Yes, it’s definitely possible! We spent one month driving all the way from Kuwait along the ancient Mesopotamian Marshlands up to the bustling capital city of Baghdad. After 7 months and over 20,000 kilometres on the road Iraq is a country we have very mixed feelings about. But during our 30 days in Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan, our impression of this region of the Middle East has gotten much more colourful, nuanced and positive! There’s so much to see: The marshes, Babylon, Karbala, Baghdad, the mosque of Samara and the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan. Ancient sites, breathtaking nature and a hospitality so warm and welcoming it’s difficult to feel unsafe. We realise how little we knew about Iraq… We hope that we can give you some nice insights into our journey!
