Lassie - Episode #435 - "Lassie's Litter Bit" Season 13, Ep.18 - 1/22/1967

The local rangers erect signs reminding the public to dispose of their trash properly, but when a man litters into a ravine and drives away, Lassie discovers a raccoon has become trapped in one of the items the man threw away. She makes it her mission to catch the man's truck before he goes too far, and convinces him to come back and right his wrongs. The ending is quite funny and endearing. TRIVIA: This episode hallmarked the efforts of then First Lady, Claudia Alta Taylor "Ladybird" Johnson who launched an anti-litter campaign and a Highways Beautification Project. On May 15, 1967, Lassie was invited to the White House at the request of Mrs. Johnson, and press photos show her shaking hands with the famous collie whose image was going to be used on posters for the Keep America Beautiful campaign.
