Have you ever wondered what happened to Old Testament believers after death? What was Sheol, why did the OT writers speak of it so often, and who went there? Does the New Testament clarify the domain of the dead in the OT? In this webinar DBTS faculty members Dr. Mark Snoeberger and Dr. Kyle Dunham will explore this topic from exegetical and theological perspectives. Dr. Snoeberger will argue that all the deceased went to Sheol, as demonstrated by a theological correlation of both testaments, and that after death Christ descended there to lead out the righteous in triumph. Dr. Dunham will argue that the OT supports distinct destinies for the deceased: the righteous ascended to God for a beatific afterlife with continued fellowship and joy, while the ungodly descended to the gloomy realm of Sheol to await future judgment. We trust that these lectures will sharpen our understanding of Scripture and will stimulate us to think carefully and hopefully about the believer’s confident assurance in God’s ultimate victory over death.
