The Records They Wiped Away | Leek Town FC's Hidden History

Leek Town's hardest years — a mid-season resignation in 1956, records wiped from the books, and over a decade of quiet County League football before the club finally finds its direction. After winning the Manchester League at the first attempt, Leek Town spent the next fifteen years searching for somewhere they could sustain themselves. The Mid-Cheshire League lasted one season. The Birmingham and District League lasted two and a half, ending in December nineteen fifty-six when the club resigned mid-season and every result was expunged. A brief return to the Manchester League also had to be curtailed. Eventually the club settled back into the Staffordshire County League and stayed there, kept alive by secretary Harry Allen and a small group of volunteers, until nineteen sixty-eight when a new committee arrived and changed everything. This is the story of the fifteen years nobody talks about, and why they matter. This is an unofficial fan history, made out of love for the club. It has no affiliation with Leek Town Football Club.
