How to make a Bioactive Tortoise Enclosure Step by Step

🐢 How to Make a Bioactive Tortoise Enclosure | Complete Setup Guide In this video, we show step-by-step how to create a simple, practical, and bioactive enclosure for your pet tortoise. ✅ Why We Chose a Plastic Tub Instead of a Glass Aquarium We used a black plastic tub rather than a glass tank. Tortoises often see through glass and continuously try to move outside the enclosure. Since they cannot understand the barrier, this can lead to unnecessary stress and repeated pacing. An opaque enclosure helps them feel more secure and comfortable. ✅ Substrate Mix For the substrate, we used: Garden soil free from pesticides and insecticides Around 20% coco chips and coco peat 10–15% additional organic material to help maintain moisture This mixture provides a natural digging surface while retaining enough humidity for healthy growth and shell development. ✅ Food & Water Stations A shallow water bowl and food dish have been provided for easy access, helping maintain proper hydration and hygiene and will also protect tortoise from getting upside down. ✅ Basking Area Setup A basking bulb has been installed at a 45° angle with a height of approximately 6 inches from the enclosure floor. This creates a warm basking zone where the tortoise can regulate its body temperature naturally. ✅ Importance of Warm Water Baths Regular lukewarm water baths are highly beneficial for tortoises because they: • Help maintain hydration • Support healthy digestion • Encourage proper urination and waste elimination • Reduce the risk of dehydration-related health issues • Promote overall activity and well-being ✅ Creating a Natural Microclimate To provide a more natural environment, we created a simple microclimate by slightly elevating one side of the tub. This creates a gentle slope within the enclosure. The lower side retains more moisture, creating a cooler and more humid area, while the elevated side remains relatively dry and warmer. This allows the tortoise to choose the conditions it prefers throughout the day, just as it would in nature. Benefits of a microclimate: • Allows natural thermoregulation and moisture regulation • Provides both dry and humid zones within the same enclosure • Helps maintain shell and skin health • Encourages natural exploration and behavior • Creates a more enriching and realistic habitat This simple modification can significantly improve the comfort and welfare of your tortoise without requiring any additional equipment. Providing proper heating, hydration, nutrition, and a natural substrate can help your tortoise live a healthier and more comfortable life. 📌 If you enjoyed this video, don't forget to Like, Share, and Subscribe to support more educational content on tortoise care and exotic animal husbandry. pashukrati Instragram - https://www.instagram.com/pashukrati?...
